How Acknowledging Yourself Increases Your Self-Esteem

Have you ever tried to not be you?

Changing your looks (hair, fashion style, etc)
Trying to imitate or act like someone that is more confident or popular
Trying to live your life through the eyes of another person
Playing games or watch videos to distract yourself

Honestly, it sucks trying to not to be you. If you don’t like you, you can’t escape you. You will always be wherever you are. You can’t be anywhere without yourself. The best you can do is to do things that will not remind you of who you are.

Rejecting yourself will only fragment your life. Acknowledging your being is the only solution.

#1 - Most people with low self-esteem don’t want to see themselves.

Most of the time when we struggle with our self-image, we don’t want to see ourselves. In fact, we hate ourselves. We’re not who we want to be, and we wish from the bottom of our hearts that we could have a different life.

However, this road will eventually lead us to a place where we don’t want to be at. We start to avoid our lives. We avoid our looks. We hate our pictures. We cover our faces. We want to hide and shy away from our own existence. Sadly, it never goes away unless you deal with it.

There is no way around it. The only way is to acknowledge and appreciate yourself to escape that feeling. When you finally accept yourself, there is no one else to reject you.

This is why maybe you never take pictures of yourself.

#2 - Acknowledging means actively try to see yourself.

I always make a point to say that this isn’t self-centeredness. When you try to see yourself it means acknowledging yourself like a normal respectable person. If you can’t see yourself as someone you at least somewhat respect, you wouldn't want to be you.

Who wants to be the person he or she disrespects and thinks ill of.

If you want to change, you have to first learn to see yourself as a normal person then a person that you respect.

Does a respectable person keep himself clean?

Does a respectable person arrive on time?

If this isn’t you, start right now and become someone you respect.

First Step -

Treat yourself like any other normal person. - Every person deserves the basic respect as a human being. You respect everything differently. You respect a gun by not treating it like a toy. You respect a human being by understanding that he/she is a valuable life.

Treat yourself to something small. -  Don’t need to justify it or feel guilty. You deserve it (Coffee, chocolate, movie night, etc). We feel guilty about treating ourselves from time to time because we feel like we don't deserve to be happy. But... we do, so resist the temptation to make yourself miserable and treat yourself to something nice.

Walk like a humble celebrity. - I like this exercise. When we imagine celebrities, we might see a prideful athlete or musician. However, I really like the ones that are humble. They know they are talented, but they don't show it off. Rather than displaying their abilities, they try to help others to become better. I want you to pretend to be a humble celebrity and embrace your worth not in a prideful way.
