Augustus Lu
My name is Augustus. This is a place where I learn and share about social barriers and norms. Here I talk about topics like identity and interpersonal relationships to help us become better versions of ourselves.
Have you ever had problems not understanding why you feel a certain way? Or if you ever had conflicting emotions inside of you wearing you down day after day? On top of that, because of all these conflicts, you can’t get involved socially and develop quality relationships.
I had those struggles too. There were times when I felt angry or sad when nothing happened. I also had other moments where I lose control of my emotions and lashed out to everyone around me! I just couldn’t manage my emotions.
Here, I made a commitment to be on this journey to develop myself into someone who can manage his emotions and breakdown the social barriers. I hope you’ll join me in this journey. This way we could really truly express who we are as people.
Learning to manage fear and anxiety, and then allowing your real talented self underneath to shine. To me that sounds awesome! Being able to confidently talk in a group. Being able to sharing your opinions without anxiety. Being able to walk around normally without feeling paranoid.
I want to go towards giving ourselves that freedom!
A little about my story here -
My journey here started in a project I did on the topic of human trafficking. I was just exposed to this horrible act of modern day slavery. I remember just talking to myself saying, “how could such a thing happen? Are these people’s conscious seared?”
I remember distinctively this picture of an African boy in the middle of a jungle. He was around 9 or 10 years old. In his right hand, he held a 2-3 feet machete. In his left, he held a cacao bean. He was a victim of human trafficking in the chocolate trade. Because people wanted profits, he suffered. This kid might not have a future because of greed.
My hopes is that through understanding social barriers, we could understand and empathize with each other. By understanding our own emotions, we can’t relate with 100% of how others are feeling, but at least 60-70% of how others feel. This allows us to empathize with others and be reminded the value of a human being.
People are made by God and are meant to be treated like people. Not SOLD or TRADED or ABUSED.
I believe on this journey we could both improve our own emotional and social lives while impacting the philosophy of how we view people! I hope you’ll join me in breaking social barriers.
